Panathinaikos Faces Hoop Ouster

first_imgMOSCOW – Panathinaikos is on the edge of being eliminated from the Euroleague basketball quarter-final after being thumped by CSKA Moscow, 77-51, in Russia to fall behind 2-0 on the best-of-five series. The Greens now have to win three consecutive games. Greece’s other team in the tourney, Olympiakos, the two-time defending champion, is also down 2-0, to Real Madrid.Panathinaikos had taken the Russian team into overtime in the first game before losing but was out of the second game from the start, and had no chance, shooting 18-for-58, or only 31 percent, from the field. The aggressive Russians wiped out the Greeks with brute force and only  Loukas Mavrokefalidis, with eight points, showed like he cared what was happening. After being down only 21-19 after one, Panathinaikos gave up the fight in the second period when the Russian team ran off an 18-6 run to take a 39-25 and that was all she wrote after that. The deficit was cut to 50-40 but the fight had gone out of the Greek team by then and it pretty much stopped even trying.Roko Ukic was the only Panathinaikos player with a double-digit scoring, notching up 15 points.TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img
